Welcome to Positive Effects Counselling.
A positive effect is defined as how the effect of one thing changes another. A positive change is one that promotes confidence, hope and the ability to focus on the good rather than the bad.
It is my desire to provide a counselling service that produces ‘positive effects’ in day-to-day living outside of the counselling room.
Individuals are often dealing with stress, life challenges and hurts that can be overwhelming. A gentle listener who is skilled in helping address these issues, explore emotions and provide effective ways of dealing with challenges may be helpful.
I have a Master of Counselling degree, and my experience includes counselling children, adolescents and women. I enjoy working with all ages from 5 years up to mature age adult with the flexibility to transition in style and language to suit the developmental level of my client.
My professional background is that of a primary school educator before becoming a counsellor. I have lived experience managing children and adolescents with varying forms of anxiety, high-functioning autism, ADHD, social skills deficits and learning difficulties. Although I have worked as a private practitioner for several years, I also work for a Christian counselling organisation and enjoy learning more each year through professional development courses. My counselling registration is through Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
Therapeutic rapport is most important to me in the counselling setting, because I believe it is the foundation for trust and an outworking of desired outcomes. I maintain a relaxed style with integrated seriousness and humour within sessions. My aim is to nurture and encourage growth in every individual I have the privilege of working with. I seek to walk alongside you or your child as we explore your world in a way that sits comfortably with you.
I am a Christian with a Christian worldview, so I am happy to include Biblical perspectives in counselling sessions. I am also able to hold a respectful, non-judgmental space for you regardless of your spiritual worldview.
